It is very important to understand the concept of motion tweening in Flash. Motion tweening is used to automatically alter the properties of a symbol (a movie clip, a button or a graphic) over a certain length of time. Motion tweening can be use to change the _x and and _y property of an element on the stage, the alpha transparency, the size of the symbol, the tint ...etc let's start with a basic tutorial that will help us to understand the very basic of motion tweening.

The basics (part 1)

Let's first have a look at the basics of motion tweening. In Part 1 of the tutorial we will create a simple animation that shows a red circle moving from left to right.

1. Create a new FLA

2. Draw a basic circle and move it to the upper left corner of the scene (fig1)

3. Now you are going to right click on the first frame of the timeline where your circle resides, in the menu that appears select "create motion tween".(fig2)

the same result can be achieve by going in Insert / Timeline / Create motion tween (fig3)

What are we doing here ? by creating a motion tween on the first frame are actually saying to Flash that that position represents the starting point, the initial state of our animation.

4. Right click on frame number 15 and select Insert Keyframe from the drop down menu, we are actually setting up the end point of our animation. (fig4)
